New Skill set picked up

Time is 10 June 2012. Well, I haf some spare time this week, so instead of doing nothing, I thought I shld pick up a new set of skills tt is relevant n perhaps beneficial to my future. So i took up video-editing n did up some choreography Reel of my past videos. I tried out a number of editing software n yup these are the results.

Honestly, I think they are v rough n Not well-done actually and I shld spend more time on trying out n understanding the video effects of the software's capability.

But I personally like my own Storyboard n the choice of song / video frames selected for these videos.
I will strive to improve alot in this set of new skills tt I acquired by trial & error... =)

(Scroll Down) Enjoy the clips n feel free to comment... =D Cheers!!
By order of Publishing, with the 1st video (TOP) as my v 1st try in video-editing, n 3rd (BOTTOM) as my latest works....

WGS Aesthetic Night 2012

WGS Aesthetic Night 2012

Time is now 5 Jun 2012.
The Aesthetic Night concert of WGS has just ended on 2 Jun 2012. It was one full of obstacles and one tt has shown me how my career down the roads these days would be tougher.

  • 1st and foremost, the teachers in the sch have been sabotaging my items and arrangements in the overall setting. They claimed that there is not enough air-time and wanted to remove my items due to duration.
  • Next, they cut short my timing for tech-run on stage while I did not exceed the allocated timing to me. So out of goodwill, I gave in BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN TT I'M IN THE WRONG... I strictly followed the time slots allocated to my CCA, n I did not exceed the time. Cutting away my time for tech-run shows your poor time-mgmt / concert mgmt. U got it by because I gave in due to goodwill. They had poor runners who did not know the programme run-down n blamed my dancers for not appearing on stage for rehearsal when the music is played. When in actual fact, dancers were alr back-stage and were stopped by the runners from Entering the Stage cos they claimed it was not their time to be on stage yet.... -.-
  • Last but not least, after numerous times of clarification & emphasis, I told them not to change my item synopsis, but when the prog booklet was printed out, it was changed... -.- Super Du Lan.... 小人搞小动作

Now back to e concert item and some thoughts over this whole new experience. Well, it was a good n enjoyable experience working with WGS Dance Alumni. I choreo-ed a long item - From Past to Present, which I used, Never Gonna give u up - Rick Astley, Pop - N Sync, Mad - Ne yo, Addicted - Stevie Hoang, Wedding Dress Instrumental - Tae Yang.

Something worth mentioning in this post would be a conversation with Vanessa. Well, over these few months, coaching & motivating the WGS current dancers was a toil 4 me. They were unappreciative n not hardworking to nail to the choreo. Through out e preparation, it keep dwelling on me whether I shld continue putting in so much effort for these ppl.

Words of encouragement from Vanessa came in an sms, which I thought I shld really Write it down here in my BLOG to remind me every now & then.

Me: Shld I put in so much effort to choreo nice items / just churn out items since the students of WGSS not appreciative?

Van: Of cos u shld put in effort to choreo nice items. Like I said, there r ppl who dun judge by dancers standards but by choreography. And besides, why waste time on something tt would be trashed-canned and not portfolio-worthy? Being an instructor is not only being an educator but also a creative individual (artist). Failing to educate ur students despite whatever reason dun mean tt u shld fail in choreo n suppress ur creativity. And Rembr tt Audience wont ask 4 reasons when they see a lousy item; they wouldn't care to ask if it's the students are CMI / unappreciative. But if your Choreo is good, there is a chance in audience appreciating it and saying: "Oh Man, the dancers can't execute the item well but the choreography is Sick yeah!!!"

Well, because of this sms, I decided to Not remove the Wedding Dress Instrumental version from the entire item. So I guess, this item had the chance of seeing the light is because of this encouragement from a friend? Otherwise, this item would be aborted.....

Apart from dance steps n Choreo, I designed the new costumes for WD item and of course I plotted the lighting design for both my items. 1 of the most satisfying feedback I received from sophisticated audience is that the costumes & Lighting design both were very well done. =D Perhaps ppl may think tt hey whats the big deal sia? But hey, I plotted the lighting design for 2 items only in 1.5 hours. As I mentioned,  小人搞小动作, I only had 1.5 hrs to do my tech run, including running formations, try out stage, plus plot lighting. I think tt I'm really super efficient in getting all these done just in 1.5 hrs lor.... Damn those  小人....

I sincerely learnt much from this whole experience abt designing costumes / lights. Oh yah, Makeup concept was also by me... =) But of course, it was my students who did their makeup themselves...

Well, I didn't touch on the comments / reviews regarding the choreography because honestly, sometimes some of these feedback are just 客套话, so I'm still trying to source out more feedback / reviews from the more sophisticated audience b4 I write another post on the critique of the 2 dance items tt I choreo-ed.

For now, please enjoy these few photos tt I ripped off randomly from FB, regarding the lightings =)
*I must really say tt no matter how good photos are, they cant really capture what the Human Eye can see. *Disclaimer: Tt day when I was in the Lighting control room, the color resolutions were more soothing to the eye compared to these photos. I guess these photos can only represent 70% of the REAL color / feel tt is seen Live tt day.
